Over exposure to the sun can damage your skin in multiple ways. The collagen beneath the skin is broken down leading the skin to lose its elasticity and have a dull appearance. In addition to breaking down the collagen, it also does not allow new collagen to form. As you age, collagen production is reduced in the body. Hence, exposure to sun can cause a lot of damage.

Reduction in collagen leads to less starchy skin which results in formation of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Sun exposure also damages the skin’s ability to heal and repair itself, thus aggravating the damage.

It also causes the natural oils in the skin to be reduced thus facilitating formation of wrinkles and fine lines. The skin may also appear blotchy and rough by nature. Certain skin problems such as spidery veins, warty patches and age spots also occur due to overexposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

You can, however, fall back on these certain preventive measures to limit the negative effects of the sun’s rays, some of them are…

  1. Apply a good quality sunscreen before stepping out.
  2. Wear full sleeved clothing.
  3. Wear caps or hats in the sun to prevent damage to your hair.
  4. Drink lots of water to replenish your body’s water stores.
  5. Include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet as they are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help in reducing signs of aging.
  6. Moisturize your skin on a regular basis to prevent dryness of the skin.
