IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) may come as a relief to patients who are trying to conceive a child for many years. After the fusion of sperm and egg in the laboratory, the implantation process begins and during the process, the eggs need nourishment and care for it to develop into a foetus.

That is why in the following few weeks of IVF, patients should focus on the nourishment that they can provide to their bodies, and diet is one of the most important contributors to that care.

In this article we will learn about the kind of diet one should follow and the kind of food one should avoid after an IVF process.

What to Eat?
Foods that are easy to digest: Have food that is easy on the stomach and is very easily digestible, like rice, pulses, white bread, chicken (preferably roasted or boiled). One should also make sure to include fruits like bananas, oatmeal, egg whites and boiled potatoes in their list. Having easily digestible food puts less pressure on the bowl, which means less contraction on the uterus.

Avocados: Avocados are very healthy and an important supplement as they contain mono-saturated fats. The study found that women who consumed mono-saturated fat were more likely to conceive a child than women who didn’t consume mono-saturated fats. Avocados are one of the best sources for mono-saturated fats.

Mediterranean Diet: Mediterranean diets are very rich in good fats that provide nourishment to the body. These include fish with low mercury in it, high fibre vegetables and fruits, legumes and rice.

What to Avoid?

Coffee: Caffeine has been linked with a high number of miscarriages, having more than 200mg of coffee a day is harmful for the body and makes it inhabitable to conceive a child.

Alcohol: This has led to 40% of the miscarriages and pre-pregnancy failures in history, and it is no brainer that smoking and alcohol are the worst things one can do to themselves during their pre-pregnancy or pregnancy.

Low Fat Dairy: Don’t have low fat dairy, women consuming low fat dairy have 85% more chances of infertility. But if women are going to have milk products at all, have high fat ones, increases the chances of fertility. Having rich butter and high fat yogurt to increase the chances of pregnancy.

Food that women are allergic to: If the women are allergic to certain foods, then avoid it. The body should be absolutely comfortable during these crucial periods, which is why one should never have sensitive foods.

Conclusion: Post-IVF period is a crucial time for the body and food is the ultimate fuel that can increase the chance of pregnancy, if followed right. One should always consult the doctor or visit to a dietician to know the best suited food for them during this period.
