Starbucks has introduced a new drink for Valentine’s Day but its ingredients may ruin your romantic plans for the day of love.

The new Cherry Mocha contains libido-crushing ingredients and the drink will only be available through Valentine’s Day.

While the 430 calorie beverage may be tasty hot or cold, the sugar, dairy and caffeine can lower testosterone levels, contain added hormones or increase anxiety which studies have shown kill your sex drive.

Daily Mail Online spoke to top New York nutritionist Tammy Lakatos Shames, co-owner of The Nutrition Twins, who broke down how this drink can disrupt your romantic Valentine’s Day plans.

According to Starbucks: ‘The new Cherry Mocha starts with hot espresso poured over a slightly sweet mocha sauce and candied cherry syrup.

‘Steamed milk and whipped cream topped with sugar and cocoa Valentine’s sprinkles finish the beverage.’

Tammy said that unless Starbucks is using organic products, the cream made from cow’s dairy will be loaded with added hormones.

‘The hormones in the cream will throw of your estrogen and testosterone, which obviously will affect libido in a negative way,’ she said

Testosterone and estrogen are sex hormones which regulate sex drive.

‘An estimated 65 percent of the adult population has reduced ability to digest lactose and nothing will lower libido faster then gas and diarrhea!’ she said.

The Cherry Mocha contains 54 grams of sugar in a grande size.

Tammy said that one cup will give you a sugar high followed by a crash.

You can get that high and feel excited and suddenly the drop comes and you have low energy and you might not feel in the mood anymore,’ she said.

  • 430 calories
  • 130 calories from fat
  • 54g of sugar
  • 15g of fat
  • 45mg of cholesterol
  • 13g of protein

The sugars in the mocha sauce, whipped cream and candied cherry syrup are also high in fat.

The Cherry Mocha has 15 grams of fat and 130 calories from fat.

According to Tammy, drinking the Cherry Mocha before sex will decrease your performance by impeding blood flow.

‘If you have that fat right before sex all the the blood goes to your stomach for digestion,’ she said. ‘And what happens is the blood is in the stomach instead of the parts you want it to go to.’

‘By diverting the blood away from the sex organs you wont experience what you want or feel the way you want to feel,’ she said.

Tammy added that this goes for both men and women and it could take up to eight hours for your body to digest the fat.

‘The 400 plus calories are as many calories as you should get in an entire meal,’ Tammy said. ‘When you add A meal to that, it really the way you down and make you feel sluggish, lowering libido.’

Hydrogenated fat also suppresses testosterone and makes you feel tired, she said.

And while some studies have shown that coffee can boost your sex drive, if you are sensitive to caffeine it may have the opposite affect.

If you get jittery or anxious from drinking caffeine, that anxiety can lower your sex drive and affect your performance in bed.

‘When you’re having anxiety you can’t perform at your best,’ she said.
